Oli Brown Bio:
Rising to the top of the British blues scene in just four short years, Oli Brown is quickly becoming the player to watch.
Brown has shared the stage with such famous players as Blinddog Smokin’, Buddy Guy, John Mayall and Walter Trout.
Signed to Ruf Records in 2008, Oli Brown released Open Road to critical acclaim; Blues Matters! named it the #2 album of 2008 and Classic Rock declared that Oli had “the blues under his fingernails like few of his peers.” Adding to the year’s accolades, the Oli Brown Band was the only British act selected for the 2008 International Blues Convention in Memphis, TN. Following the convention, Brown was invited by John Fry of Ardent Studios to record a live session (which scored 1.3 million hits in under a month)!
In 2010, Brown lured legendary British producer Mike Vernon (veteran of benchmarks like 1966’s Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton) out of retirement to helm his second album Heads I Win, Tails You Lose. Upon its release in April 2010, Mojo dubbed Brown “the hottest young pistol in British blues,” Uncut praised him as “a British bluesman to rival Trucks and Bonamassa” and the British Blues Awards voted Brown 2010’s Best Male Vocalist and Best Young Artist. The success and accolades didn’t stop there. In 2011, Brown earned more awards from the British Blues Awards (2011 Best Band and Best Album), performed 25 gigs with John Mayall and concluded the year as Mayall’s lead guitarist at the Indonesian Blues Festival. In January 2012, Brown performed on a Black Keys tribute album for Cleopatra Records which included the likes of Iggy Pop, Johnny Winter and Walter Trout (among others).

Oli’s new album, Here I Am, (mastered by Brain Lucey, fresh from The Black Keys’ El Camino album) release in April 2012 to rave reviews that propelled the cd to the top of the UK and Germany charts and one of the hottest downloaded CDs on iTunes and Amazon. For this 22-year-old, blues isn’t just a job, an easy paycheck or a shot at cheap celebrity: it’s his passion and raison-d’être. “I picked the wrong genre of music to be a celebrity,” Oli laughs. “I just want to be a credible musician!”

On Saturday, July 21st, from 3-5pm, Walla Faces is featuring a dance performance as a part of the Walla Walla Summer Dance Festival featuring ballet, modern and jazz dancing.
The Walla Walla Summer Dance Festival is an outgrowth of Summer Dance Lab, the training-intensive pre-professional dance program at Whitman College. It was created to help spread Pacific Northwest dancing across the country.
At Walla Faces, Summer Dance Lab directors John Passafiume and Lydia Teztlaff aim to give a behind the scenes look at the way a dancer is made. They will draw upon their elite and seasoned faculty, including Ricci Adan of American Dance Machine; Justine Clark, a Los Angeles area dancer and choreographer; and Lisa Boswick, a New York City dancer, as well as members of the Summer Dance Lab Apprentice Program, to take the audience through the training process of a professional dancer.

Jake Blues (John Belushi) leave Joliet prison and with his brohter Elwood (Dan Aykroyd) visits the Chicago orphanage where they were both raised. After discovering the orphanage is closing because of unpaid taxes, they decided to use their music and other less-than-desirable skills to raise the money and hilariously save the day.
We will have wine available by the glass or bottle, along with an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages, cheese plates and sweet treats available for purchase.
All ages are welcome. Although we love pets and welcome them to our tasting room during business hours, no pets will be allowed during our movie events. No outside alcohol may be brought on-site.
Doors open at 8:30pm, movie starts at dusk. $5 per person, includes movie popcorn. Children 5 and under are free. Wine club members free (limit 2 per membership). Local Wine Industry employees free (please bring business card).

Walla Faces continues with its diversity of sound program by presenting Angie and the Car Wrecks from Aberdeen, WA. Angie and the Car Wrecks play rockabilly music with a Pacific Northwest twist. The Car Wrecks’ main influences are the pioneers of classic rockabilly music, such as Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, and of course Johnny Cash. Other influences include Hank Williams Sr., Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings, and more recently, the Chop Tops and the Reverend Horton Heat.
What sets them apart from other bands is that they are almost all family members and this gives them a tightness that puts them beyond other bands. They are an extremely cohesive unit and they never fail to entertain. They love to play music, which comes through in every performance.
Angie and the Car Wrecks are comprised of two brothers, Shawn Ball on the upright bass; Dale Ball on guitar; with their good friends Pigpen, on washboard, and Garrett, on harmonica; and Dale’s wife Angie Ball leading the pack and taking on vocals.
The Car Wrecks have played throughout the West, opened for Grammy Award winning band Soul Asylum, and produced two albums. Angie and the Car Wrecks play at the Walla Faces Tasting Room Wednesday, July 18th from 7 to 9pm. There is no cover charge.

Fourteen restaurants in the Walla Walla Valley are coming together July 9th - 15th for the first annual Sweet Onion Restaurant Week in conjunction with the annual Walla Walla Sweet Onion Festival.
Most will be featuring two course prix fixe lunches for $12.12 and three course dinners for either $20.12 or $30.12. This promises to be a delicious week to explore new restaurants, revisit your favorites and get a phenomenal deal on great food!

The concerts will feature violinist Lindsay Deutsch and soprano Nicole Greenidge Joseph with works by Mozart, Floyd, Barber and Gershwin in the beautiful and intimate Power House Theatre.

Folk/Funk/Rock
They’re music tastefully flows between funk, rock, reggae, and folk as the band continually pushes the envelope of their musical creativity and works hard to keep things exciting.
R-Dub Big Beats (the oldest brother on the band) and Rob Gnarly (the second oldest) are both songwriters and lead vocalists for the group. Gnarly contributes the introspective and folk-reggae style, R-Dub the rock and roll. Sometimes working co-op and other times individually on their songs, which adds another dimension to the sound of the band.
They have toured extensively in the NW and have ventured down as far as Hollywood, CA. The band has also traveled to Lima, Peru and toured through out the Peru nation.
